Billy Horschel to Skip BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth

Billy Horschel will miss the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth for the first time since 2020, the two-time winner announced in a social media video, citing a need to protect his PGA Tour status.

Why is Billy Horschel skipping Wentworth?

Horschel finished 2026 in 100th place in the FedEx Cup standings, with a best result of T12 at the Wyndham Championship and only three other top-20 finishes in 23 starts. Because only the top 100 retain full PGA Tour playing rights for 2027, Horschel is instead playing the Biltmore Championship, which opens the FedExCup Fall series Sept. 17-20 — the same week as the BMW PGA Championship.

Horschel said he is skipping the event because of "my not so stellar play on the PGA Tour this year." He is a two-time champion at Wentworth, in 2021 and 2024, and has called it one of his favorite weeks on either tour.

A decade of goodwill at Wentworth is giving way to a fight to stay inside the PGA Tour's top 100.

Horschel's 2025 season was disrupted by injury, which carried into a 2026 campaign that fell well short of his past form on the DP World Tour's flagship event. He is a University of Florida alumnus who has made five consecutive Wentworth appearances since 2020.

The West Course field he'll miss includes Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, JJ Spaun, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland, Shane Lowry and Brooks Koepka, among other headliners.
