Cabrera-Bello Plays Adam Scott's Old Irons After Lost Clubs

Rafa Cabrera-Bello opened his week at the Omega European Masters with someone else's irons in his bag, after his own clubs were left behind at Birmingham Airport on the way to Switzerland.

With his equipment still stuck in Birmingham ahead of Thursday's first round at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, the Spaniard borrowed a set of Titleist 681.AS irons built for Masters champion Adam Scott, along with other clubs belonging to a member at the host club, supplied through the on-site Tour truck. The 681.AS is a forged blade Titleist created for Scott in 2005, after the brand ran out of the original 680 model he had gamed for a decade.

Playing Scott's old blades, Cabrera-Bello carded a four-under 66 and ranked second in the field in strokes gained for approach play. He returned to his usual Titleist T100 irons for round two and shot 65.

What did Cabrera-Bello say about the swap?

The four-time DP World Tour winner said afterward that playing Scott's blades had him weighing a return to that style of iron, even as he leaned toward going back to his own set for round two.

"I have a big dilemma, I really don't know what to do."

Cabrera-Bello heads into the weekend four shots behind defending champion Thriston Lawrence, who carded rounds of 64 and 63 to reach 13 under. A third European Masters title for Lawrence on Sunday would match the tournament record held by Seve Ballesteros.
