Lee Westwood said mistakes were made during LIV Golf's first iteration, as the league works through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and searches for a new investor to launch what players are calling LIV 2.0.
What did Westwood say about LIV's bankruptcy?
Speaking on talkSPORT radio in the U.K., Westwood said he does not know the full details of the bankruptcy case but is being kept informed as CEO Scott O'Neil works with a new investor to restructure the league.
"I think everybody understands that there were mistakes made with the first one," Westwood said, adding that the incoming partner is working to make the circuit sustainable. He said any mention of bankruptcy is bad news for the people involved, though he stressed he still does not know the full case details.
What are Westwood's plans if LIV restructures?
Players will be free to leave LIV once the bankruptcy proceedings conclude, and Westwood said some will look elsewhere while others will stay. He and Ian Poulter both paid off their DP World Tour fines this year and are set to return at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship; Westwood has also been playing the Legends Tour in recent months.
At 53, Westwood said he wants to see what LIV 2.0 looks like before deciding his 2027 schedule. He said a shorter, team-based season of around ten events would suit him at this stage of his career, mixed with starts on the DP World Tour and Legends Tour.
