Lilia Vu on Standby as Team USA's Solheim Cup Alternate

Lilia Vu is in the Netherlands this week as Team USA's alternate for the 2026 Solheim Cup, on hand in uniform at Bernardus Golf in case she is needed. The plan remains for Angel Yin to play, but her path back from a two-month absence has kept the alternate situation under closer watch than usual.

Why is Angel Yin's status in question?

Yin missed two months with stomach issues and lost 35 pounds before returning at the FM Championship two weeks ago. In her first start back, at TPC Boston, she shot 81-76 without making a birdie. She has told U.S. captain Angela Stanford she is fit to compete and has played two practice rounds at Bernardus.

"She's here. She's playing," Stanford said Tuesday, noting the team's agreement stipulates how many matches each player must see.

Who is Lilia Vu?

Vu is a former world No. 1 and two-time major champion who clinched the Solheim Cup for the Americans in 2024. She has fallen to No. 235 in the world after missing the cut in her last 10 individual LPGA starts, including nine of 10 during the middle of the 2025 season. Across two Solheim Cup appearances, the 28-year-old carries a 2-5-1 record.

Rose Zhang, who also needed a captain's pick to make this year's team, withdrew from an LPGA event in Canada last month with a minor back injury. Jenny Bae, Lucy Li and newly turned pro Kiara Romero were among the other players considered for the alternate spot.
