Mel Reid Denies Charley Hull Drinking Story at Solheim Cup

Team Europe vice-captain Mel Reid moved quickly to shut down a social media clip suggesting Charley Hull was late to Solheim Cup practice because of drinking the night before, calling the account a "completely false story."

Hull arrived a few minutes behind her practice group ahead of this week's matches against Team USA at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. A social clip, since deleted, showed Hull joking with fans near the tee and pointing toward caddie Adam Woodward while the post's caption attributed her lateness to drinks the previous evening.

Reid told reporters Hull was in bed by 8 p.m. the night before and was first on the team bus the next morning, and said Hull does not drink. Reid said the delay was her own fault for not pulling Hull off the driving range in time, and that Hull believed her tee time was five minutes later than it was.

"It is a completely false story," Reid said of the drinking claim.

European captain Anna Nordqvist backed up the explanation, saying Hull had prepared at home in England and flown in separately from the rest of the team, a day after her teammates arrived, and that the short gap to the first tee accounted for the delay.

Reid credited Hull's growing enthusiasm for the Solheim Cup atmosphere this week, and Nordqvist said she had personally waved the rest of the group ahead on the first tee knowing Hull was on her way.
