Peter Uihlein DQ'd as 5 LIV Golfers Chase DP World Tour Card

Five LIV Golf players are seeking a backup plan on the DP World Tour, entering first-stage Qualifying School this week as uncertainty grows over the future of their current tour. One of them, Peter Uihlein, is already out.

Why was Peter Uihlein disqualified?

Uihlein, a former PGA Tour player who turned 37 last week, opened with rounds of 74 and 73 at Huddersfield Golf Club in England and stood tied for 66th at 7-over through two rounds. He did not show up for his third-round tee time Friday and was disqualified. Only the top 19 players, plus ties, advance to the next stage.

Uihlein earned $4.13 million across his PGA Tour career before joining LIV Golf, where he has taken in $37.6 million, including $4 million in 12 events this year. "In reality, I wish I played better. I'm not denying that," he said of his PGA Tour run before making the jump to LIV.

Who else is chasing a DP World Tour card?

Two more LIV players remain in contention at Huddersfield. Josele Ballester, the 23-year-old 2024 U.S. Amateur champion and member of Sergio Garcia's Fireballs GC, sits at 1-over through two rounds after an opening 67 was followed by a 74. Luis Masaveu, a 23-year-old Spaniard and fellow Fireballs GC member who finished 48th on LIV's 2026 money list, is on the number at 2-under after rounds of 68 and 70.

Michael La Sasso and Yosuke Asaji have not teed off yet. Both begin first-stage qualifying Sept. 8 at Seddiner See Golf and Country Club in Michendorf, Germany, one of 10 European qualifying sites. La Sasso, the reigning NCAA individual champion who left Ole Miss early to turn pro with Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers team, won LIV Golf's Indianapolis event in August at 22 years old. Asaji joined LIV through the International Series after winning the 2025 Singapore Open and finished 44th on this year's LIV money list with $1.79 million.

Five LIV players are hedging their bets on Europe's tour before knowing whether their own has a future.

The push for outside status comes as LIV Golf's long-term plans remain unsettled. The league, formerly bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is exploring a leaner "LIV 2.0" model and recently sent players owed money beyond this season settlement offers worth just a few cents on the dollar. Huddersfield qualifying concludes Saturday, while the Seddiner See stage runs Sept. 8-11.
