Srixon Launches Second-Gen ZXi7 Forged Players Irons

Srixon has released the second-generation ZXi7 irons, a forged players' iron built for accomplished ball-strikers who want feel and workability without giving up all forgiveness. The set carries a $1,499.99 price tag and ships to stores Oct. 16 after an early presale that began Sept. 8.

What technology is inside the ZXi7?

Srixon forges each head from a single piece of S15C carbon steel using a new method it calls i-FORGED. Extra material is packed around the hosel before a second forging, under heat and pressure, tightens the grain structure in that high-stress area. The same process reinforces the metal around the grooves, and Srixon says it can then heat-soften the rest of the head for feel without weakening it.

Behind the face, a structure Srixon calls PureFrame iQ uses AI-assisted simulations to shape a ridge of steel behind the sweet spot, which the company says stiffens the impact zone for a more solid sensation. Reducing the mass needed for that ridge freed up weight that Srixon shifted to the perimeter of the long irons for added forgiveness, while the short irons keep more mass centered for control. Tungsten in the toe of the long and mid-irons pulls the sweet spot toward the center of the face. The unchanged Tour V.T. sole and club-specific groove spacing, wider in the long irons and tighter in the scoring clubs, round out the set.

Who are the ZXi7 irons for?

Srixon markets the ZXi7 to accomplished golfers and consistent ball-strikers who prioritize feel, trajectory control and workability but still want some forgiveness built into the long and middle irons. It has a compact blade, narrow sole and minimal offset, traditional specs for a players' iron that trade some margin for error at address for a cleaner look and more workability than a game-improvement club.
