Trump Turnberry opens 12-hole par-3 course on Scottish coast

Trump Turnberry has opened a new 12-hole par-3 course on the Scottish resort's grounds, adding a third layout alongside the championship Ailsa and King Robert the Bruce courses.

What is Trump's Twelve at Turnberry?

The course, called Trump's Twelve, plays holes ranging from 70 to 206 yards and occupies the land previously used by the resort's Arran Course. It was designed in-house by the Trump Turnberry team and follows recent upgrades to the Ailsa course and the resort's PGA-certified golf academy. Each hole offers a choice of teeing grounds, with artificial tee-lines from SYNLawn UK built into the design to hold up to heavy play.

"Trump's Twelve is another exciting addition to what we believe is one of the finest golf experiences anywhere in the world," said Trump Turnberry general manager Nic Oldham.

Is Turnberry still in the Open Championship rotation?

Turnberry's Ailsa Course has hosted the Open Championship four times, most recently in 2009, but the venue is not currently being considered for a return. The new short course adds practice and recreational capacity at the Ayrshire resort regardless of championship scheduling.

A 12-hole par-3 loop won't move Turnberry's Open Championship prospects, but it gives the resort a faster, cheaper round to sell alongside two full 18s that already carry major-championship pedigree.
