Victorville Takes Over Green Tree Golf Course Operations

The city of Victorville, California, took over daily operations of Green Tree Golf Course and its pro shop on Sept. 1 after Sierra Golf Management canceled its management contract with 30 days' notice.

Why did the city step in?

Sierra Golf's departure left the city searching for a new operator, and it opted to run the course itself in the meantime. The course and pro shop closed for a single day, Sept. 1, so city staff could take over and be trained on operations; normal hours resumed Sept. 2 with no change to daily operating hours.

What was the Sierra Golf contract?

The Victorville City Council signed with Sierra Golf in August 2024 for management services through Aug. 31, 2029, with a not-to-exceed cost of $2,948,951, according to city records. Sierra Golf posted on Facebook thanking the city and Green Tree's members, families and junior golfers for the relationship. The company, which manages 11 courses in Northern California and one in Palm Desert, directed annual members to the pro shop for questions about their memberships and did not respond to a request for comment on why it ended the contract three years early.

What is Green Tree Golf Course?

The 18-hole, par-72 municipal course opened in 1963 on Green Tree Boulevard and stretches just over 6,600 yards. It was designed by William F. Bell, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. In February 2026, the city held a grand opening for a new library built as an expansion of the golf course's clubhouse building.
